About
Jan Kerr was born in Ayr, Scotland in 1959. She has a degree in Fine Art and an MA in Mixed Media from the Slade School of Art. Short-listed for the Bridport Prize in 2018, she undertook the MA in Creative Writing at Manchester Met in 2019. In 2023 she was long-listed for the Edwin Morgan Second Life awards..Time & Chance No. 5 in 2024 is her first solo exhibition. The installation of poetry, performance and film at Courtesy of Dietl, New York, explored themes of love, landscape, gendered identity and the geology of deep time. After writing solely for the page, Urchin Hearts, Brittle Stars marked a return to filmmaking.She has lived in North Wales since 2000, raising a family, running Jan Miller Photography and working freelance as an artist and facilitator for various projects including: Lead Artist on the Mostyn Digital Project for TATE Circuit, Creative Team member for National Theatre Wales' production, Lifted By Beauty : Adventures in Dreaming and as a posie-maker to the Army of Beauty for HeART of Glass.Previous exhibitions include: Signs of the Time MoMA Oxford, the London Film Festival, the South London Gallery, the Edinburgh Film Festival, the Cambridge Darkroom and Art in General, New York. The soundwork, I Am a Regional Variation; I Am My Mother’s Tongue, is held in the permanent collection of the Women’s Sound Archive.
